Kitchen Winter SpringsAs time moves along what was in style in the 90’s is now nearly considered retro!  Is your kitchen…RETRO?

There are so many ways to update your kitchen without blowing your budget.  Here are some of my favorite tips:

  1. If your boxes are good, only replace the doors. There are many cabinet builders here in Central Florida that will make you new doors and just paint the boxes with the same paint that they use for the doors.
  2. Only have 36″ cabinets and want taller ones? If your current cabinets are in good condition but you just want the updated look, add 12″ tall cabinets in the same width above what you already have. Again, have someone paint everything to match and add some molding and you will have an expensive updated look for little money outlay.
  3. Are your cabinets ready to be retired completely? As crazy as it sounds it is usually less expensive to have a cabinet maker build you custom made cabinets than to go to your local home improvement store and order their cabinet lines. The reason? You don’t have to pay for all the overhead. Plus…you will design your kitchen cabinets the way that will work for you.
  4. Counter tops are pricey…you can’t escape that. Shop several stone yards to find the best price on the stone you want and then use an experienced fabricator. They will know how to make the best use of your slab.
  5. Appliances are available from big box stores and specialty stores alike. Shop around for the best sales and use a coupon code if you have it. Your stove will not cook better just because you spent $200 more than you had to on it!
  6. Finally…you might want to consider using a company that will help you design your kitchen and shop for the best prices around town. They usually have great working relationships with trades and stores and can get you discounts that you didn’t know were out there. One of our favorite companies is Details For Construction. They serve all of Central Florida and have the experience to make your kitchen remodel as stress free and budget friendly as possible.

About The Author

I am the mom of the typical American family that did a not-so-typical thing! We moved 1000 miles south of our hometown to a city we knew little about. Those first few weeks were crazy! I didn't go anywhere without putting the address into my GPS. I drove the wrong way on the Turnpike & the 408 and at one point ended up in Winter Park when I was headed to Winter Springs! We struggled with everything from finding doctors and dentists to determining where to grocery shop. Every trip to get gas or dinner was a new exploration and adventure. Within a few weeks, however, we had made a serious dent in our "To Find" list and started to feel a little confident in this new city. Today, It has been nearly 2 years since we pulled that moving truck into Orlando and we all couldn't be happier or more settled! This isn't the path for every family...that's for sure. But if you are prepared for the same journey, hopefully I can be a resource for you so you don't end up in Hunter's Creek when you are trying to go to Altamonte Springs!
