When we first started talking about uprooting our entire lives and moving to Orlando the most important thing on our list was to find a church family! We have always been part of a local church but it was critical to survival now. We needed people that would love us through all of the fears, decisions and insecurities we were bound to have and to celebrate the wins with us.  We found those people this week.

Sometimes finding a church can feel like the slowest process. You really only have a couple of times each week to visit new ones.  We were super fortunate that the second one we visited was OUR church. From the moment we stepped foot inside the 100+ year old building we knew we were in a special place.  I was able to talk to several women who have been exactly where I am today..NEW!  New to the area, new to moving, new to everything.  It seems a little less overwhelming when women come up to you and ask you what you need to find and offer suggestions about where to find it.

The craziest thing…all week we have been getting notes in the mail welcoming us. This may be the friendliest church there ever was.  It is all going to be ok!

About The Author

I am the mom of the typical American family that did a not-so-typical thing! We moved 1000 miles south of our hometown to a city we knew little about. Those first few weeks were crazy! I didn't go anywhere without putting the address into my GPS. I drove the wrong way on the Turnpike & the 408 and at one point ended up in Winter Park when I was headed to Winter Springs! We struggled with everything from finding doctors and dentists to determining where to grocery shop. Every trip to get gas or dinner was a new exploration and adventure. Within a few weeks, however, we had made a serious dent in our "To Find" list and started to feel a little confident in this new city. Today, It has been nearly 2 years since we pulled that moving truck into Orlando and we all couldn't be happier or more settled! This isn't the path for every family...that's for sure. But if you are prepared for the same journey, hopefully I can be a resource for you so you don't end up in Hunter's Creek when you are trying to go to Altamonte Springs!
